Donkeys can thrive in almost any climate and nearly any environment as long as they have these simple things: 1. Company and 2. Interaction!
They make the best companions for children — even disabled children — because of their peaceful, kind nature and bright intellect — but they’re fun for all ages because of their gentle manner and willingness to learn! They’re the best of both worlds when working with children because they don’t bite and are wonderful about taking treats in a calm, conscientious manner, being careful not to bite their benefactors. Among the cutest things donkeys do is the way they take treats from the fingers of people — with their lips!
Highly photogenic and interesting to both doll up and teach, they’re still a novelty in most circles so are often the only ‘donkey on the block’!
They’re quiet and docile and lovely to keep as pets as they have a lively social life (with another donkey around) and so are easily handled and trained. We do recommend keeping them in pairs as they are a herd animal and love to interact with other donkeys.
