The donkey is one of God’s most amazing creatures — willing and very able to learn, donkeys are said to be even brighter than horses! They have a wonderful, trainable disposition and thrive on spending time with people. They’re gentle on the environment and thousands of them are slated to be killed for the same reasons America is losing its wild horse populations: the battle over grazable lands and the ‘need’ among ranchers for cheap cattle grazing property they can lease for virtually nothing.
Over the next five years, over 5,000 donkeys are slated to be removed just from the Death Valley area in. California alone.
For this reason and others, homes for donkeys are desperately needed — but few people know what kind and gentle pets they make!
When people obtain donkeys from us, we pay for vetting and ferrier work as well as provide sources for great prices on hay and grain — which go a long way when you’re feeding donkeys anyway as a donkey uses 95% of what they’re fed — compared to the 75% of feed provided to horses.
Not that we’re not fans of horses and we save them, too, from slaughter and send them to sanctuary to be utilized for equine assisted therapies.
We’re just providing accurate information pertinent to the affordability of donkeys, along side similar materials that will allow you to assess your needs and determine which animals best fit your situation.
If an animal outlives its usefulness to you or outlives your passion or ability to caring properly for them, we will take them back into our program. If your need is shortlived such as a special case or a special need [special needs children for insitance] we will happily return them to our facilities.
If you are adopting on a more permanent level and need to Re home the donkeys temporarily, we’re always available to provide temporary facilities in the hope that they can return to you when you are in a better position — but they will never be ‘homeless’ if they came from us.
Likewise, if you would like to Re-home your donkey/s with our program to prevent them from going into dangerous situations or even sale barns where they can be sold to kill buyers, please contact us. We can and will transport and remove them within our program free of charge.
